Giyu (己酉) day pillar
A field at harvest: hands that gather and refine
What the Giyu day pillar is like
Giyu is farm soil (己) holding autumn metal (酉). Earth makes metal, so Eating God (식신) sits below, and the stage is Birth (장생). Like a field at harvest time, it is read as gifted at gathering the fruits of its work and refining them.
Careful and deft, it shines at organising and finishing. The 庚 hidden in 酉 is Hurting Officer (상관), so it says what needs saying, and its high standards rule out sloppy work. Good food and an orderly life tend to matter to it.
Caring about the finish can delay the start. Thinking of it as improving as you go, rather than getting it right first time, makes things easier.
The Giyu ilju (day pillar), character by character
Number 46 of the sixty-pillar cycle. The table shows what Halmeoni's calendar engine computes for this pillar.
| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Top character (day master) | 己 — farm soil (yin earth) |
| Bottom character (day branch) | 酉 — Rooster · metal · autumn (about September) |
| Yin-yang | yin (both characters) |
| Elements | earth above, metal below |
| How the two relate | The top character feeds the bottom one: energy spent outwards. |
| Hidden stems (ten gods) | 庚 Hurting Officer (상관), 辛 Eating God (식신) |
| Ten god of the day branch | Eating God (식신) — what you make and enjoy: talent, good food, ease |
| Twelve stages | Birth (장생) — being born: beginnings, growth |
| Void branches (공망) | 寅, 卯 — an empty spot: what is hard to hold on to |
Hidden stems are the forces tucked inside the bottom character; the last one listed is the strongest. Ten gods describe each character as seen from the top character, the day master, so the same bottom character gets a different name under a different day master. The void branches are the two that have no partner in this pillar's ten-day week; they only matter when they appear elsewhere in a chart.
The twelve stages here count backwards for yin stems (the 음포태 method). Schools that give yin stems the yang table (양포태) get a different stage for this pillar.
A day pillar is only two of the eight characters in a chart. People who share it can read very differently once the year, month and hour are added, so take this as entertainment, not as a verdict on who you are.
