Jeongyu (丁酉) day pillar

Candlelight on a jewel: a sense for what is precious

What the Jeongyu day pillar is like

Jeongyu is a candle (丁) beside autumn metal (酉). Fire governs metal, so Indirect Wealth (편재) sits below; the stage is Birth (장생), and 酉 is a Nobleman (천을귀인) branch for 丁. Like a jewel sparkling by candlelight, it is read as recognising value through fine perception.

It has a keen eye for beautiful and precious things and often shows talent in decorating and refining. It is affectionate and attentive with people, and helpers tend to gather around it naturally.

A small flame is weak in the wind, and rough surroundings can make it shrink. Choosing places where it can work comfortably is a skill in itself.

The Jeongyu ilju (day pillar), character by character

Number 34 of the sixty-pillar cycle. The table shows what Halmeoni's calendar engine computes for this pillar.

FactValue
Top character (day master)丁 — a candle or lamp (yin fire)
Bottom character (day branch)酉 — Rooster · metal · autumn (about September)
Yin-yangyin (both characters)
Elementsfire above, metal below
How the two relateThe top character controls the bottom one: sitting on what you manage and gather.
Hidden stems (ten gods)庚 Direct Wealth (정재), 辛 Indirect Wealth (편재)
Ten god of the day branchIndirect Wealth (편재) — money you move around, big chances; for a man, a lover
Twelve stagesBirth (장생) — being born: beginnings, growth
Void branches (공망)辰, 巳 — an empty spot: what is hard to hold on to
Stars on the day branchNobleman (천을귀인) — a helper who turns up when things are hard

Hidden stems are the forces tucked inside the bottom character; the last one listed is the strongest. Ten gods describe each character as seen from the top character, the day master, so the same bottom character gets a different name under a different day master. The void branches are the two that have no partner in this pillar's ten-day week; they only matter when they appear elsewhere in a chart.

The twelve stages here count backwards for yin stems (the 음포태 method). Schools that give yin stems the yang table (양포태) get a different stage for this pillar.

A day pillar is only two of the eight characters in a chart. People who share it can read very differently once the year, month and hour are added, so take this as entertainment, not as a verdict on who you are.
